ESTRO

ESTRO PROJECT

"Experimental and theoretical aSsessmenT of laminaR flow rObusteness at high mach and reynolds numbers"
Go to OBJECTIVES

OBJECTIVES

ESTRO will produce experimental and numerical data at low and high Mach numbers to validate the relevant aerodynamic performance (including laminar flow extension measurements and wing span load distribution) of the elastic NLF wing of the new TP90 A/C regional aircraft equipped with morphing devices for high lift and load control alleviation.

Go to CHALLENGES

CHALLENGES

By providing support to the CS2- REGIONAL domain driven by Leonardo Aircraft, ESTRO will contribute to the Clean Sky 2 programme that aims at lowering pollutant emissions and reducing perceived external noise by integrating breakthrough technologies in full-scale demonstrators.

Go to IMPACT

IMPACT

ESTRO activities impact three major areas : • Society and Environment • Innovation and knowledge integration • Transverse application ESTRO activities will in particular contribute to 1. Improve Aircraft Design 2. Optimise Aircraft Aerodynamic Performances 3. Increase the European industry competitiveness 4. Face up societal challenges identified at European level

Go to PROGRESS

PROGRESS

The ESTRO consortium is currently finalising the activities and preparing the closing meeting which will be held on February 21, 2023. All the milestones of the projects were achieved. In particular a WT test campaign have been prepared and carried out in the Large Low Speed Facility of DNW located in Marknesse (NL) in December 2021. Data related to the aerodynamic performances of the WT model, including load alleviation and deformation measurements were collected, analysed and set available to authorised persons on the ESTRO workspace on SP.

PARTNERS

The ESTRO consortium is composed of 3 partners belonging to organisations coming from Italy and Germany. This consortium comprises Universities and private Enterprises. Each partner is of high importance to realise the objective of this project. This combination guarantees a complementation of each other with their distinct expertise, approaches and methodologies.

UNIVERSITY OF SALERNO

UNISA coordinates the project and performs CFD computations

DREAM INNOVATION SRL

Dream is responsible for WT tests and contributes to numerical analysis

IBK INNOVATION GmbH

IBK is responsible for aero-structural calculations and strongly contributes to WT measurement and extrapolation to flight conditions
DNW is the selected provider to carry out the Wind Tunnel experimental campaign. It joined ESTRO after the amendment of the project launched in September 2020.
